Missions Trip to Liberia
On a missions trip to Liberia last summer, our missions team partnered with Bishop Sydney Thomas and Victory Outreach Ministries and spent 2 weeks traveling
the
country to evangelize and visit church plants
and orphanages in those communities. I
was seeing and feeling for the first time, the conditions of 3rd world
orphanages and experiencing the reality of the children and the conditions they
live in. These children are real and the conditions they live in are real.
There is a
difference between imagining the children and the conditions from a
suburban house in America and being confronted with the reality of the children
that will be
living there long after we leave. My prayer was that God would lead me and help
me to lead others deeper into His heart – that we would be broken in new
ways
for the cause of Christ.
On that trip, our hearts were pierced with the call to action to help the children in these orphanages. We met with orphanage mothers and fathers (leaders become
mothers and fathers to all, as these kids are without any other mother of
father) and pulled out their stories of sacrifice and of giving to love and to
help the kids
from the same orphanage that many of them grew up in. It was common
in Liberia to see believers laying down their lives and their needs
for the lives
of others. There was a singular thought that moved through my heart during all of the orphanage visits.
I have so much – I can
make a difference. We have so much - we
can make a difference for these kids!
With
just a little, we can make a huge impact - we can do something! Not just
by cutting a check and walking away but by partnering with the heart of
God and
the heart of an individual orphanage to equip it to arise out of the
constant struggle for food, with sickness and despair and into the life and
calling for these children
in Christ Jesus.
Our mission is to lock arms with other families, to be the body of
Christ reaching to these children and together make an impact on these kids through
and for Jesus Christ. The time is
now…….let's help these children to arise.

Biblical Mandate
Matthew 25:37-40
"Then
the righteous will answer him 'Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you,
or
thirsty
and give you something to drink? When
did we see a stranger and invite you in
or
need clothing and clothe you? When did
we see you sick or in prison and go to visit
you? The King will reply, 'Truly I tell you,
whatever you did for one of the least of
these
brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.'"
James 1:27
"Religion
that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans
and
widows in their distress and to keep oneself
from being polluted by the world."
1 John 3:16-18
"This
is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to
lay
down our lives for our brothers and sisters. If anyone has material possessions
and
sees a
brother or sister in need but has no pity on them, how can the love of God be
in that
person? Dear children, let us not love with words or
speech but with actions and in truth."
Isaiah 58: 10-12
"..and
if you spend yourselves in behalf of the hungry and satisfy the needs of the
oppressed,
then
your light will rise in the darkness, and your night will become like the
noonday.
The
Lord will guide you always; he will satisfy your needs in a sun-scorched land
and will
strengthen
your frame. You will be like a well-watered garden, like a spring whose waters
never
fail. Your people will rebuild the ancient ruins and will raise up the age-old
foundations;
you
will be called Repairer of Broken Walls, Restorer of Streets with Dwellings."
Psalm:82:3
"Defend
the weak and the fatherless;
uphold
the cause of the poor and the oppressed."
Matthew 10:8
Freely you have received, freely give."
Matthew 10:8
Freely you have received, freely give."
